Summary
Hingson examines childhood fears from the perspective of adults looking back on their fears as a child. Hingson analyzes the differences between what she terms imagined and real fear. Imagined fear, as implied by its name, is the fear of imaginary things, and Hingson contends, is usually grown out of by adolescence. Real fear is caused by a traumatizing experience which is not easily outgrown. Hingson also examines why the stories are passed on, if they are passed on, and the effect they have on their children's fears
