Summary
Discusses the importance of preserving the histories of individuals who are unknown outside of their "local world." This preservation is important because of the values which life histories communicate. Explains that the narratives of her father express such values as being able to find humor in adversity and having a strong work ethic. Includes narratives about Steven Alley's college experiences, his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Austria, his experiences in the U. S. Army, and recollections of his father and growing up on a farm. Also includes several short story-style memoirs written by Steven Alley, titled "If You're Worth Your Cheese," "A Summer in Kodiak," "The VANGUARD," "The Son of Santa Claus," and "A Bout with Poverty."
