Summary
In the United States, Mexican immigration is a compelling and critical issue, which gives rise to a growing need to understand migration from the perspective of Mexico. However, there is very little research or literature that discusses the issue from a historical context and from the perspective of Mexican communities. To bridge this gap, the current thesis paints a portrait of international migration from the perspective of a rural Mexican community and shows that based on cumulative causation, Mexicans from rural areas continue to migrate because of the circular effect of limited education, limited work opportunities and a growing culture of migration. By considering the issue from these different angles, this project fills the need for a more comprehensive and humanistic view of migration from the Mexican perspective
