Note
  • Translation of Feder und Stichel
  • "2,000 copies."
  • "The historical development of occidental letter press': leaves [27]-[29]
  • Colophon: This first edition in English of Feder und Stichel was produced in 1952 in an impression of 2000 copies printed on Italian Fabriano paper in the private printing-office of the D. Tempel AG type foundry, Frankfurt am Main (Germany). The calligraphic pages were designed during 1939-1941 by Hermann Zapf who also composed the historical appendix. The latter was translated by Paul Standard of New York, who also wrote the preface. All the metal plates were cut by hand by the foundry's punch-cutter August Rosenberger. The text is again set in the Palatino type, designed for the foundry by Hermann Zapf for use in the original German edition. All reproduction rights reserved
