Note
  • The type used for this book is the original roman designed by Eric Gill for the Golden Cockerel Press, in the 18 point size which had its first and principal use in the Four Gospels issued by the Press in 1931. It was cast (together with a 14 point, and also 24 point and 36 point titling) at the Caslon foundry, the punches being cut on a Benton machine under the supervision of J. Collinge. It is used here by courtesy of Thomas Yoseloff of New York, the present owner of the Press. The book was designed by Sebastian Carter; and set by him and Anne Geer, with assistance from Will Carter, Michael Coles and Kate Emlen; and printed by him at the Rampant Lions Press, Cambridge, on Barcham Green's J. Green mould-made paper. The presswork was finished on 8 April 1977. The patterned paper was designed by Sebastian Carter, and printed by the Scriptorium Press of St Albans; and the binding executed by George Miller of Bryn, Shropshire
