Summary
The special contents of the videodisc include not only The birth of a nation but also a ten-minute condensation of The birth of a race appearing at the end of side 4. The birth of a nation was released in 1915 by Epoch Producing Corp. The version of The birth of a nation presented here is transferred from a 1927 print (a general reissue occurred in 1922) which Griffith had recut and altered from the original release. The birth of a race was a 1918 feature originally one hour in length, produced and directed by John W. Noble as a response to the racist overtones of The birth of a nation
