Summary
Using archival film and photographs; interviews with historians, writers, and relatives; and new cinematography, this film documents the life of Andrew Carnegie from his impoverished beginnings in Dunfermline, Scotland to his family's arrival in Pittsburgh in 1848. It chronicles the influence of Thomas A. Scott on young Carnegie and his successes in the railroad and steel industries. The showdowns between Carnegie Steel and the unions are well documented as are the views of Carnegie and his partner, Henry Clay Frick. It concludes with the purchase of Carnegie Steel by J.P. Morgan and Carnegie's donation of $350 million to philanthropies which included libraries, museums, world peace
