Summary
After the bombing at Pearl Harbor, Rammell and a handful of close friends found themselves ready and willing to serve in the military. However, only one of them was taken by the draft, the rest being given agricultural deferments. After a few years of working and going to school Rammell and a close friend who also was on agricultural deferment decided they felt ashamed for not serving and were accepted into the Army Air Corps as Pilot Cadets. Shortly after this they were informed there were enough pilots and they were reassigned to be machine gunners. Rammell relates his many missions over Europe, all of which were successful, and speaks much of how his religion affected him in the war
Biographical or historical data
Rammell served in the 95th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps of World War II from 1944-1945 as a tail gunner, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
